‘Staggering’ price for first-class lambs at Quoybrae sale of Caithness sheep

Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday sold 1623 prime sheep, store sheep and feeding ewes and rams.

New Season Prime Lambs (627) averaged 297.3p (+45.3p on the year) per kg and sold to 346.3p per kg for 40kg Texels from Dunbeath Mains, Dunbeath and £171.50 for 63kg Black Lambs from Cairnrioch, Lybster.

Feeding Ewes and Rams (792) averaged £142.46 (+£22.50 on the year) and sold to £265 for Texels from Sibmister, Castletown.

Store Lambs (204) averaged £93.28 (+£11.13 on the year) and sold to £121 for Suffolks from Inkstack, Barrock.

“A first-class show of prime lambs were forward today averaging a very respectable 297.3p per kg. The first store lambs of the season were sold to average £11.13 up on the year with the best sorts very easily cashed. A total of 792 feeding ewes and rams met an electric trade, topping at £265 and levelling off at a staggering £142.46.”
