Stagecoach will take part in disabled talks next month.

REPRESENTATIVES from Stagecoach are set to meet with a disabled group to talk about the lack of access for wheelchair users on buses travelling north from Dunbeath.

The Highland Alliance Access Panel will be holding a meeting at the Pulteneytown People’s Project in Wick on Wednesday, October 17 to discuss a number of issues affecting disabled people living in the far north.

Caithness Disability Access Panel chairwoman Helen Budge said that the Stagecoach X99 service from Inverness to Thurso and Wick is one of their main concerns.

She claims that Stagecoach do provide buses suitable for disabled passengers between Inverness and Dunbeath, but when transferring at the war memorial point, she said that no provision currently exists.

Her views come after she announced that disabled access for disabled shoppers in Caithness town centres has significantly improved over the last 12 months.
