Spittal SWI members hear about Caithness At War project
Members of Spittal SWI have been hearing about the Caithness At War heritage trail.
Alistair Jack, the driving force behind the project, was guest speaker at the institute’s May meeting. Anne Gunn, the president, welcomed a good turnout of members.
Phase one of Caithness At War, commemorating the county’s role in the fight against Nazi Germany, was officially opened at Wick John O’Groats Airport in April last year. It features 46 information panels – 30 located in and around Wick, and 16 in the Sinclair’s Bay area.
The project has been delivered jointly by Sinclair’s Bay Trust and Wick Development Trust with funding from the Caithness Beatrice Community Fund.
Now there are plans to extend the trail to cover the area from Freswick across the north coast to Dunnet.

Alistair, who is chief officer at Caithness Voluntary Group, answered many questions from the members before judging the competitions.
