Speed bumps installed outside Wick hotel
NEW traffic-calming measures have been introduced in Wick in an attempt to curb antisocial driving.
Three of six speed bumps were been put in place outside the Norseman Hotel by Friday afternoon – just four days after the local community council backed the plan.
One pair is located at the entrance to the Riverside car park, one outside the Norseman’s front door and a third pair is set to be installed beside the exit to the car park.
The Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council voted in favour on Monday night of putting in three sets of speed bumps to try and deter boy racers from speeding past the hostelry after repeated appeals from business owner Andrew Mackay.
Mr Mackay believed if action was not taken to solve the issue then someone could end up seriously hurt.

“It affects a lot of businesses in the town at night. It just happens to be they [drivers] congregate outside ours,” he said. “All we are looking for is a solution. Only time will tell if this is it.”
Mr Mackay praised the support he has received from police, the local authority and the community council in helping with the problem.
