Special trees planted for the Queen at Lyth

A selection of native tree species were planted at a Lyth riding stables by its owner and a girl she has been mentoring for a Young Equestrian Leaders Award (YELA).

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Everyone across the UK was invited to plant trees from October 2021, when the tree planting season begins, through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022. The QGC will create a network of individual trees, avenues, copses and whole woodlands in honour of The Queen's service and the legacy she has built.

Model and horse riding mentor Natalie Oag took on the project along with Gina Lewis as part of her last YELA project. Gina said: "I think this is a great and productive way to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. I found the experience very relaxing and peaceful, learnt a lot about planting trees and it’s a wonderful way to unwind.

"I think a lot more young people would enjoy the experience and it‘s something I would like to help encourage. I can’t wait to see the journey of my planted trees as they grow. I would like to thank Natalie for all the help throughout this project.”

Natalie said: "What better way to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee, than to help wildlife and combat global warming. It's a wonderful legacy."
