A HEAVY goods vehicle blocked traffic this morning after crashing into a ditch due to severe icy conditions which affected roads across the Far North.

Northern Constabulary said the accident happened on the unclassified road between Watten and Spittal at 8am.

Police attended and the road was closed for a short period of time.

Officers also confirmed two accidents occurred early this morning, the first involving two cars just outside Thurso at 7am.

The second happened at 7.15am when a single female driver lost control of her vehicle on the A9 at Latheron.

Sergeant Neil McDonald said no-one was injured as a result but advised motorists to be aware of icy conditions this weekend.
