AN Essex man has praised staff at Caithness General Hospital for the level of care they gave to his 77-year-old father, who lives in Halkirk.

In a letter published in the John O'Groat Journal today, David Quinn of Westcliff-on-Sea says: "I would like very much to pass on my heartfelt thanks to all of the doctors and staff at Caithness General Hospital for the excellent care they gave my father, Pat, when he was rushed in earlier this month with breathing difficulties.

"My father has an underlying issue with his lungs, and any infection can be extremely dangerous to him.

"The nursing staff and doctors and consultants were all very professional and put dad at ease, while also ensuring he was comfortable. As I live a considerable distance away in Essex, it was a day later before I arrived, not knowing what to expect. I was very reassured to know that not far from dad’s home in Halkirk is such a well-run hospital.

"Dad is now at home and recuperating really well, thanks to the staff of the hospital, and a lot of help from his very close friends."
