SNP’s Paul Monaghan elected as MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross

PAUL Monaghan has been elected MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross after a triumphant night for the SNP across Scotland.

The election count was held overnight at the Highland Football Academy, Victoria Park, in Dingwall.

The results, declared by Steve Barron, returning officer, are:

• John Robert Erskine – Scottish Labour Party 3061

• Alastair Robert Graham – Scottish Conservative and Unionist 2326

• Paul William Monaghan – Scottish National Party (SNP) 15,831

• Ann Therese Murray – UK Independence Party (UKIP) 981

• John Archibald Sinclair Thurso – Scottish Liberal Democrats 11,987

The total number of votes cast across the constituency was 34,231. A total 45 ballot papers were rejected.

In Scotland the SNP has claimed a total of 56 Westminster seats.
