Snow causes four road accidents in space of two hours
BLIZZARDS hit Caithness on Thursday with a number of motorists involved in accidents on ice-bound roads, ferries being disrupted and several schools closing.
Police attended the aftermath of four cars sliding off Caithness roads in the space of two hours.
At 9.30am, an unoccupied car was found crashed on the B874 between Halkirk and Gillock. The driver was later traced and found to be unhurt.
At 10.40am, a black Vauxhall Corsa left the B876 at Bower road and veered into a ditch while at 11.20am another car left the B874 at Glengolly. At 11.30am, a Volkswagen Tiguan slid off the road at Castletown. There were no reports of anyone being injured.
A number of motorists, meanwhile, got into difficulties when their cars stuck in the snow at Scalesburn in Wick.

Crossroads, Bower and Reay primaries were all closed, as was Farr primary, Farr High, Melvich primary and Tongue primary.
Northlink Ferries is reviewing its ferry services between Scrabster and Stromness for Friday.
ScotRail reported no problems to the far north line.
Highland Council reported routes in Caithness and north Sutherland had up to four inches of snow.
