A youngster from Wick has earned a top award as he moves up from Cubs to Scouts after the summer.

James Gunn (10) was awarded his Chief Scout's Silver Award at 1st Wick Scout group's AGM on Thursday.

The award is the highest a Cub can achieve, and James has earned six "activity" or "staged activity" badges as well as all seven of the "challenge" awards in order to qualify for it.

Activities James completed at Cubs as part of the award include camping, hiking, gardening and pioneering badges, along with some that were earned at home in his own time, such as book reader, hobby, and home help badges.

James will be moving up to Scouts after the school holidays and Cub leader Jean Seddon said it has been a great pleasure to have him as a Cub for the past two years. She added that all the leaders wish him well and hope he continues in Scouts and gains his Gold Award.
