Show of colour at West of Caithness SWI Bulb Show in Thurso

The West of Caithness SWI Bulb Show was held in Royal British Legion Scotland in Thurso on Saturday March 12.

Judges for the day were Carol Grant and Kathleen Baikie, and Carol also stood in at short notice when a speaker was unable to attend due to Covid. She had written a humorous poem on the challenges of bulb growing.

Emilia Gunn, grand-daughter of Anne Gunn presented a gift of thanks to Carol. Thanks was also extended to photographer Eswyl Fell.

The best exhibit was won by Michelle Swanson, Bower, with a stunning Single Amaryllis, and reserve was Two Hyacinths grown by Ruth Manson.

Most points in show was won by Anne Gunn, Banniskirk, who received her trophy from Carol, and reserve was Joanna Mackay, Murkle.

Banniskirk SWI won most points overall.

Murkle SWI served afternoon tea and Dunnet SWI ran the fundraising.

The West of Caithness SWI then showed their support for Ukraine by merging daffodils and hyacinths in the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
