A SHERIFF warned a young Caithness man about his surly behaviour when he appeared in the dock at Wick Sheriff Court today (Friday).

Sheriff Andrew Berry told 20-year-old Eddie MacGregor that if his attitude does not change when he returns to court next week he could find himself in custody.

MacGregor of Roxburgh Road admitted acting in a aggressive manner to the police when they arrived at his home on November 29.

Senior fiscal depute, David Barclay, said the accused’s attitude was “one of provocation and challenging the authority of the police. He was trying to get a rise out of a young policeman.”

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald pointed out that MacGregor is due to appear in court on Tuesday (Dec 22)for a review of a community pay back order. She suggested deferring sentence until that report is available.

Sheriff Berry agreed to do that but commented on MacGrgeor’s surly and indifferent attitude in the dock. He warned him that if it does not change he could end up in custody. “You have until Tuesday to think about that,” he said.
