Sex offender caught at Scrabster with indecent images of children is jailed
A sex offender who was found to have a catalogue of indecent images of children on his phone was jailed for 20 months at Wick Sheriff Court this week.
Cameron Gray pleaded guilty on indictment and admitted a previous record of offending.
The court was told on Tuesday that police officers, acting on intelligence they received, called on the 25-year-old at a house in Scrabster, on October 30 last year and seized his mobile telephone.
It revealed 85 indecent photos of children in categories A, B and C in seriousness.
Fiscal Grant McLennan said that the Category A images included three naked children. Gray was arrested and taken to Wick Police Station where he was cautioned and charged, and made no reply.
Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Gray was “well aware” that he was not allowed to engage in such behaviour and added: “He has to face the consequences.”

Sentencing Gray, described as a prisoner at Inverness Prison, Sheriff Neil Wilson said there was little that could be said by way of mitigation.
The sheriff, who saw a background report, told the accused that there was little evidence of remorse on his part.
Gray’s prison sentence was backdated to November 26, last year, when he was remanded. The accused must place himself on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
He will also be under supervision on his release and will have to give notice of visits to play parks and other leisure facilities.
