Serial dangerous driver detained and banned

Kyle Mackay was said to have mounted the pavement when negotiating a corner in Thurso, in a van in May of last year, when he appeared at Wick Sheriff Court.
The 19-year-old had been given six months' detention at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday when it was heard he careered onto the Maryburgh roundabout, on February 3, on the A835, in his father’s van with two young passengers, one of whom was unrestrained. He approached the Tore roundabout at between 100 and 110 mph.
Despite being signalled to stop by police, Mackay overtook on the chevrons and passed nine vehicles before failing to negotiate the next roundabout. He went through bushes and a small tree.
After his appearance at Wick, Mackay, of Shellbay, John O’ Groats was put off the road for three years and admitted driving dangerously in Thurso. He was also ordered to carry out 75 hours unpaid work in the community.
