CAITHNESS will see its biggest-ever community campaign this weekend.
That is the claim which has been made by Landward Caithness Highland councillor Alex MacLeod ahead of the local launch of the campaign for an independent Scotland.
Mr MacLeod, who is the campaign co-ordinator, said the aim of the project is to encourage people from all parties and none to sign the “Yes Declaration”.
The campaign will be launched at the Caithness County Show at Thurso East on Saturday.
“Our message to folk in Caithness is simple. It is fundamentally better if those who care most about Scotland – the people who live and work here – determine our future,” said Mr MacLeod.
“This will be the biggest community campaign Caithness has ever seen. Our team of activists from all parties and none will be knocking every door in the county over the next year as we take our positive message to local people.
“This campaign is for anyone who supports an independent Scotland. We’re all fired-up and ready to go.”
Local MSP Rob Gibson said: “This is the most important campaign I will ever be involved in. I’m looking forward to joining my friends from all parties and none who believe that we are better off independent.”
Yes Scotland is the cross-party campaign for parties, organisations and individuals who believe in an independent Scotland.
Organisers have vowed to stage the “biggest community-based campaign in Scotland’s history” in the run-up to the independence referendum, which is set to take place in 2014.
