TELEVISIONS seized by Trading Standards have been sent to a local charity for recycling.

Recent months have seen a number of televisions as well as generators, power washers, welding and cutting equipment, and mattresses seized because they either failed to meet safety standards or were falsely described.

Some of the items had falsely applied CE marks, inadequate or missing instructions and safety warnings, as well as no documentation to verify the equipment had been designed and manufactured to a safe standard. Some of the equipment had been altered to circumvent the fuse function.

The items were seized from people found to have them in their vehicles while travelling around the area.

Trading Standards has been working with Police Scotland to tackle the problem of doorstep crime in the Highland Council area.

Anyone approached by people selling such items are advised not to buy them but report such activity to Trading Standards on 01463 228700 or Police Scotland on 101.
