A section of the North Coast 500 in northern Sutherland will be closed to traffic for five days next week while roadworks are carried out.

Highland Council has announced that a one-mile long section of the A836 road between Farr View in Bettyhill and the turn off for Farr itself will be closed to traffic from 7am on February 26 until 6pm on March 1.

Two access windows will be in operation each day, from 8am to 8.30am and 4.30pm to 5pm.

The local authority also said that there will also be access at other unspecified times as well, but this will be dependent on the works under way at the time.

Confirming the closure on its Twitter account, Highland Council said: "The A836 Tongue to John O' Groats road, [at] Bettyhill will be closed from U1686 Farr Road to U1815 Farr View, from 7am on February 26 to 6pm on March 1.

"Closure to allow roadworks. Access at 8am to 8.30am & 4.30pm to 5pm. Also access at other times, depending on works under way. Expect delays."
