Thurso seafront pathway ‘an embarrassment’ - but praise for Wick community volunteers

Seafront pathways an ‘embarrassment’
What must this impression of Thurso give to visitors (see picture above)?
Having walked regularly in all seasons over a great many years along Victoria Walk in Thurso, I was both shocked and saddened to see the state of disrepair it has fallen into.
The weeds have been left to grow to over three feet in places which infringe the walkway.
The stretch of public footpath from Thurso Caravan park and the steps at Durness Street is only what I can describe as a sad state of affairs and quite frankly an embarrassment to the town.

Visitors from the caravan site and also cruise ships regularly take this walk which, looking out to sea, is stunning, while looking inland is embarrassing!
This stretch of public footpath has in the past been maintained by Highland Council, however one can only assume that its neglect is yet another cutback in an effort to save money by the council.
Come on, surely we're not at the stage of choosing either to have our bins emptied or to have our public footpaths passable?
I applaud the previous work carried out by Corinne Nicklin and her volunteers to clean up the esplanade, however it seems that by volunteers carrying out the work, Highland Council have washed their hands of their responsibility to do this!
Please, please tidy up this beautiful public footpath and give the visitors (and locals) something to admire instead of complaining about this overgrown eyesore which must leave a long and negative impression of Thurso.
