A YOUNG north businessman has won a prestigious award at an event in Aberdeen. Murdo Mackay, who owns and manages M Mackay Engineering Services Ltd, which is based at Scrabster, won The Fishing News Supplier of the Year 2022.

Mr Mackay, who is 28 and from Armadale in Sutherland, was nominated by fishing skipper Peter Sinclair then shortlisted, before winning the award by a public vote – as did all the other categories.

His company supports the fishing industry, forestry, stone quarrying and agricultural customers but also does engineering work for Scrabster Harbour, Vulcan and a diverse range of customers across the north of Scotland.

Mr Mackay was an apprentice at Vulcan and then worked for PM Services at Castletown for a short period before establishing his own company a few years ago.
