Scrabster ferry gets makeover
IMPROVEMENTS are being made to the Hamnavoe ferry which operates between Scrabster and Stromness.
Operator Serco is also carrying out similar work on its Hjaltland and Hrossey ferries which run between Aberdeen, Orkney and Shetland. The work is being undertaken based on feedback from customers and is due to be completed by Christmas.
One of the most noticeable changes will be to the internal seating layout. The current a-la-carte restaurant will not only see a facelift but a change of menu with the new offering serving a gastro-pub-type dining experience.
The work means there will be a temporary reduction in capacity although Serco is doing its best to minimise disruption on busy sailings.
Stuart Garrett, managing director of Serco NorthLink Ferries, said: “We have spoken to customers about what they want to see on board the ferries and made investments based on these comments. We have scheduled this work to take place during the quieter winter period to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum and planned the work as best we can to avoid the busiest sailings. I am confident our passengers will appreciate the improvements we have planned.”
He also highlighted the company’s commitment to continue using local produce on board all NorthLink passenger ferries.
