A Scrabster driver gave a positive breath-alcohol reading after being stopped by the police.
A follow-up test revealed that Steven Taylor was four times the legal drink-driving limit of 22mcg, Wick Sheriff Court was told on Tuesday.
Taylor pleaded guilty and was banned from driving for a year. The 60-year-old first offender, of Holborn Place, Scrabster, was also fined £400. The offence occurred in Princes Street, Thurso, on December 29, 2021.
Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Taylor had been a full-time carer for his mother who passed away a year ago. He had found her death difficult to come to terms with and had started to consume alcohol, but had not taken any since being charged.
