A Scrabster driver lost control at a road junction and hit a fence, Wick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday.

James Murray (32), who escaped unhurt, was fined £300 after he admitted a charge of careless driving. He also incurred four penalty points.

The accident, shortly after midnight on May 12, was discovered by a nearby resident who heard the collision and went to the scene at the junction of Janetstown Road and Quarries Road, Hill of Forss.

Fiscal David Barclay said that other residents also responded to the accident but found that Murray was okay and didn't require medicalattention.

Murray, of St Clair Avenue, Scrabster, remarked to them that he had been "driving too fast", the court heard.

Sheriff Neil Wilson was told that Murray, a first offender, had made good the damage to the fence.
