FAR North golf fans won’t have to reschedule for the Scottish Open which returns to Inverness next summer.

The European Tour has confirmed the prestigious championship will return to Castle Stuart in its usual slot – a week before the Open.

This is despite the withdrawal of the event’s main sponsor, Barclays.

The end of the 10-year association with the sponsor sparked fears over the future of the event.

A number of other interested parties were keen to secure its place on the calendar but European Tour chief operating officer Keith Waters confirmed the links course near Inverness will host the tournament from July 12 to 15, 2012.

Waters added that while the European Tour is still negotiating with sponsors it hoped to offer the same prize money as last year of £3 million.

The Scottish Open moved to Castle Stuart this year after 15 years at Loch Lomond.
