Scottish honour for Caithness rugby stalwart
A MEMBER of Caithness Rugby Club has been chosen as the RBS Scottish Rugby Volunteer of the Month.
Shona Kirk, from Castletown, received the honour for her stalwart work beyind the scenes at the Thurso-based club, which plays in Caledonia League 1.
“I’m very embarrassed to have won this award. I want to know who nominated me so I can give them a piece of my mind,” said Kirk, who has served as chair of the junior committee, under-15 and 16 fixture secretary, secretary of the senior committee and is even known to pull on the boots to run coaching sessions from time to time.
She continued: “There’s a real buzz around the club at the moment. It’s our 50th year, we’ve had a 40% increase in playing numbers and we’ve just appointed a new development officer. I think the award will add to the buzz for everyone at the club.”
Shona will also get a table of ten at Scottish Rugby’s annual awards dinner on May 31, 2013 where she will be in with a chance of winning the RBS Club Volunteer of the Season award.
