Berwick Rangers host Wick Academy in the Scottish Cup second round tomorrow.

BERWICK is set for an invasion of Scorries as up to 200 Wick Academy fans descend on the town to cheer on their team in the second round of the Scottish Cup.

A corner of Shielfield Park is set to become an enclave of Caithness when Academy take on Berwick Rangers, with the Highland League side aiming to beat SFL opposition in competitive action for the very first time.

The first bus of Wick fans left Harmsworth Park this morning on the 318 miles to Northumberland and other buses are set to leave on Friday afternoon, with other diehards travelling by train.

Caithness exiles based in Central Scotland as well as in England are also heading to Berwick to lend their support to Academy.

Club secretary Alan Farquhar said that the number of fans that will be cheering them on Saturday will be a huge boost to the squad.

“Some buses headed off to England first thing on Friday morning with others making their own way to the game,” he said.

“There is also around the usual band of around 60 fans from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow that usually join us in Scottish Cup away matches.

“There will be a good crowd cheering us on and if we play like we have been recently, we could be heading back with something to celebrate.”
