Caithness is to host a weekend of theatre workshops as part of the build-up to next year’s festival of one-act plays.

Wick Players and Thurso Players will welcome Carole Williams, national drama adviser for the Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA), to conduct a series of free sessions aimed at developing acting and directing skills.

The Wick workshops are being held at the Moray Street Drama Centre on Saturday, October 19.

The first, about improvisation and the basics of drama and acting on stage, is for the youth age category (11-16) and will run from 11am to 1.30pm. The second workshop, about directing, is geared towards adults (minimum age 16) between 2pm and 5pm.

Registration is essential, via the Wick Players’ website, so that numbers attending can be confirmed.

Carole will also be presenting two in-house workshops at Thurso’s Mill Theatre on Sunday, October 20.

The first, starting at 10am, will be for the junior members of Thurso Players aged 11-16. The second, at 2pm, will be designed around Thurso Players’ upcoming pantomime and is open to current members of the club.

Anyone interested in joining Thurso Players at these sessions can contact the club secretary, Faye Sutherland, at fayesther24@googlemail.com

Caithness district SCDA vice-chairman Jayden Alexander said: “With the SCDA’s nationwide one-act play festival fast approaching, now is the perfect time to perhaps introduce yourself to amateur dramatics – or, if you’re already involved, then why not expand your skill set in directing?

“Or, if you’re a keen youngster, then now is your chance to get involved with a drama club.”

The workshops in Wick and Thurso on October 19/20 will cater for performers aged 11 upwards.
