Scarecrow guys earn cash prizes in Thurso Rotary Club challenge
Scarecrow guys have taken up residence across the west of Caithness in response to a competition organised by Thurso Rotary Club.
There were 26 imaginative entries, including witches and superheroes – and even a scarecrow inspired by the outgoing president of the United States.
The challenge was planned as an alternative to the annual Rotary fireworks display, which had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 restrictions.
There were cash awards for the best entries, with Miller Academy P7s receiving the £100 special prize to be given to a charity of their choice.
The Miller pupils won the children's section with a Quidditch scene based on the Harry Potter books.

Claire Hughes was the adult section winner with a design inspired by the Disney/Pixar film Up, with the central character Carl finding that a land called Caithness sounds like the perfect place to live out his remaining years.
Prize winners – Adults: 1 Up – by Claire Hughes, £20; 2 Covid witch – by Hannah Gunn, £15; 3 Lost dog – by Eilidh Benecki, £10.
Children: 1 Catching the Golden Snitch! – by Miller Academy P7 class, £20; 2 Skeletons waiting for a holiday – by Jenna (4) and Keira (7), £15; 3 equal Dog – by Callum (12) and Sophie (9), £10; Lizzie the recycled scarecrow – by Scallywags Nursery, Crossroads Primary School, £10.
Rotary's Paul Hagan said: "We were delighted with the response to the scarecrow guy competition, with a total of 26 entries including themes of witches, superheroes, the Covid pandemic and President Trump.
"We organised the competition as an alternative to our annual public fireworks display to provide some local fun and cheer as such events could not take place in light of Covid-19 restrictions. We received entries from nurseries, schools and families as well as individuals, and the scarecrow guys can be spotted in gardens and even in front of the Dunbar Hospital."
