Big Karen and Little Karen, as they are affectionately known by pupils at Crossroads Primary, received gifts from the children for their combined 46 years of service.

The pair first worked when Scallywags was held in Victoria Hall, Dunnet, and subsequently moved to Scallywags’ current location at Crossroads Primary.

Lynne Swanson, acting head teacher, said: “We are very fortunate to have two very dedicated and long serving early years practitioners in Crossroads. Both staff members are passionate and committed to their roles, nurturing all of our young learners.

“I am sure many children, past and present, will have fond memories of their time spent in Scallywags with Karen and Karen.”

Karen Mackenzie said: “We are privileged to have witnessed a generation of children grow up in this small community ELC.”

The children’s festive fun continues on Tuesday, December 17, at the Mey Village Hall from 1pm to 3pm when the Crossroads school and Scallywags ELC will host a Coffee Afternoon which is open to everyone.

The highlights will be the children singing Christmas songs and the Christmas cake from King Charles which he donates to the pupils of Crossroads Primary School every year.
