Joy and happiness at Wick's Santaland

WICK'S Rosebank Playing Fields were transformed into a winter wonderland at a themed park called Santaland.

Parents and children booked in for sessions that culminated in a meeting with Mr and Mrs Claus and some special treats.

Claire Mackenzie, of Wick Christmas Lights Committee, was one of the driving forces behind the initiative which ran over three days.

"We're going to make a charitable donation to the youth club for letting us use their venue as it has been the ideal location," she said.

"It adds a bit of light to the centre of town too."

Claire said the committee had worked hard to put up hundreds of lights to fill Santaland.

Jayne Scollay from Friends of Autism Highland was at an extra-special evening event last Friday. "We asked Claire if she would put on a special night for our autism kids," Jayne said.

"They wouldn't be able to handle going with other kids in the community as it would be a bit too overpowering.

"The children have sensory issues so it's more toned down tonight and without the music."

Claire and her colleagues on the Christmas lights committee sent out a big thanks to sponsors Mackays Hotel and Wick Tesco for helping to create the Santaland magic.
