A HOUSEWIFE from Thurso has won £250,000 on the National Lottery Turquoise scratchcard game.

Sandra Swanson (48) bought the scratchcard at D. and M. Fraser’s supermarket on Castlegreen Road, Thurso, on Friday, August 5.

When she arrived home she scratched the card with a coin from her pocket to reveal she had won the jackpot.

Mrs Swanson said that she was over the moon to have won so much money.

"I enjoy buying scratchcards, but the most I’ve ever won was £200," she said. "I buy the same scratchcards every week.

"I know the rules of the game, but even when I saw the symbols I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was just in a state of shock wondering what had just happened."

The mother of three who has been married to care worker Glenn for 26 years received the cheque today (Tuesday) outside the supermarket where she bought the ticket.

Store manager Douglas Fraser said that Mrs Swanson’s win was the biggest amount to ever come from a ticket sold at his shop.
