DRIVERS passing a Thurso primary school are being urged to take extra care on the roads – thanks the winning designs of the pupils.

The Safer Routes to School Group at Mount Pleasant held a “design a banner” competition last term with a fantastic 44 entries.

The six judges from the Safer Routes to School Group had a tricky time selecting the winners. The runners up had their designs turned into posters: Corvyn, Heather and Caitlin and Islay. Missing from the photo are Sadie and Emme.

"Our overall competition winner was Sophie Laird," said the school's head teacher, Suzanne Urquhart. "In the photo is Sophie along with the other Walk Once a Week (WOW) ambassadors, holding up the eye catching design.

"The banner has now been fixed to the railings and we hope that it will encourage drivers to reduce their speed as they pass by our school."
