One of the Royal Navy’s smallest ships had a stop-off in Wick on its way to Orkney.

HMS Magpie, the Navy’s inshore survey vessel, was in Wick harbour on Friday.

The Navy surveys UK strategic ports supporting homeland defence, including seabed infrastructure.

A Royal Navy spokesperson said: “HMS Magpie and her crew are on transit to Orkney and have stopped in Wick for fuel and a night’s rest.”

The vessel commissioned in 2018 to replace the veteran survey launch HMS Gleaner.
