The Royal Hotel is to re-open next month.

THE Royal Hotel in Thurso is to reopen in March after a four-month winter closure.

The hotel in Traill Street is scheduled to start trading again on March 19, according to owners Oxford Hotels and Inns Group. But that date could be put out by a week to complete “tidying up” following work which has been carried out during the shutdown.

Hamish Mackinnon, general manager of the Royal, said yesterday: “My team and I are looking forward to opening again. Essential maintenance work has taken place while the hotel has been closed.

“We’ve already got a healthy number of visitors booked in across the spring and summer months, so we’re anticipating a busy year ahead.”

The Royal, one of the town’s longest established hotels, closed on Sunday, November 6 following a drop in the number of customers over the winter period.

The hotel struggled last year due to the impact of the economic recession although it had “a healthy number of visitors” throughout the spring and summer months.
