Mr Melville plans to carry out some work at the 103-room hotel, which also has a restaurant and bar, and open later this summer.

It is understood the Royal will then be shut in October and fully refurbished over the winter.

In the meantime, Mr Melville, is recruiting staff for the hotel.

He hopes the business – part of the Melville Hotel Group – will attract coach parties, people on the popular North Coast 500 route as well as local trade.
