The historic Wick Sheriff Court building now has a watertight roof over its head.

The glass canopy and its wood framework succumbed to a sustained spell of wet weather last year, leaking water into the courtroom below – in front of the dock!

However, the wheels of justice didn't grind to a halt.

Criminal and civil business was moved to courtroom two on the ground floor while temporary repairs were carried out.

Scaffolding was erected inside and outside the building this month to allow a replacement canopy to be fitted and work was completed earlier this week. The cost wasn't disclosed.

The A-listed sheriff court building, one of the finest of its kind in Scotland, was designed by talented architect, David Rhind, and was opened in 1866 when it was described as "a remarkable edifice". It cost £6000 at the time.
