Roger Saxon (Scottish Labour Party)

Roger Saxon.
Roger Saxon.

I AM asking you to vote for me because I have the energy, experience and fresh ideas to make Thurso prosper.

I have been a Dounreay worker for 47 years and have always been active in the community. When my children were at school, it was PTAs and school boards. Later it was town improvements.

I am chairman of HomeAid, Thurso Youth Café and Caithness Horizons Collections Trust, vice-chairman of Caithness FM and secretary of Thurso-Brilon town twinning. My long association with these organisations demonstrates my commitment to community life and gives me the experience and contacts that count.

I want to keep the Dunbar minor injury unit, with respite and palliative beds. Our NHS needs to be more local and accountable.

Tesco’s land banking is unacceptable. They must landscape the area. I will seek the withdrawal of their planning permission and compulsory purchase if necessary.

The next few years will see serious job losses at Dounreay and outward migration. I will support sustainable employment and high-quality training, particularly for the young.

I would like to see more 20 mph homezones in Thurso, with traffic-calming. I will campaign to take back the Thurso section of the A9 because I believe the council would be more responsive and accountable and make a better job of integrating maintenance of roads and street lighting.
