FORGETTING The Future is the band’s name but tonight’s gig at Mr C’s in Thurso could well be an unforgettable experience for Caithness rock fans.

Supporting headline act Cab Collective – headed by acclaimed Thurso musician Isaac Sutherland, son of the late and legendary Johnny “Fats” Sutherland – the band have already racked up a number of rave reviews.

It should be no surprise that singer and guitarist Robbie McNicol is part of the band given his own family musical heritage – his grandfather James “Nicky” McNicol played with Johnny Sutherland back in the day and was also a guitarist/singer.

Robbie’s dad Jason said: “Robbie has always had a guitar in his hand – although it’s become more than a hobby.

“His grandfather was very musical and was involved in the music scene in the 1960s – not only in Caithness but in Edinburgh and Glasgow as well.

“Robbie met up with the rest of the group members at the youth club in Thurso and it was there that the band was formed.

“The boys can write songs about anything from surfing to eating takeaways – they can go off on various tangents.

“Isaac Sutherland offered them a support slot for Cab Collective’s Scottish tour. They’ve just done Inverness, will be playing Thurso [tonight] and finishing up in Edinburgh three days later.

“They don’t have a record deal yet but are currently recording an EP of four songs which will be available soon.”

Forgetting The Future will be on stage at Mr C’s in Thurso around 9.30pm tonight. Cab Collective will go on at 10.30pm. Admission is free.
