DELIGHTED lifesavers in Wick are celebrating after their popular harbour day raised a whopping five-figure sum.

The Wick RNLI crew have moved to thank everyone who made their annual fundraising harbour day such a success after it generated “a staggering” £14,100.

“On behalf of Wick RNLI Coxswain Allan Lipp, the crew and the fundraising team we wish to pass on our thanks to the local community for the support they showed the RNLI during our annual fundraising harbour day,” said a spokesman.

“We wish to thank all the individual contributors and the many local businesses for the donations or stall sponsorship that they made to the event, especially to the local fishing community for their donations of fresh seafood, Scrabster Seafoods for their donation as well as filleting, and preparing sea food donated by fishing vessel Boy Andrew.

“We would also like to thank the fishing vessel Summer Rose who donated locally caught scallops.

“Local to Wick, the inshore fleet very generously donated crab and lobster at a time when it is in short supply.

“In addition to this, we would also like to thank Scrabster Harbour for supplying the ice needed to keep the seafood fresh on such a hot day.

“The day was greatly helped by the numerous displays from the amazing Wick RBLS Pipe Band, Elise Lyall Highland Dancing, Marrellian Majorettes, NRG Dance Group, the Pentland Model Boat Club, the HIAL Airport fire service and Wick Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the CNC and local Police Scotland, HM Coastguards, Caithness Seacoast, the Scottish Ambulance Service, the Wick Heritage Centre and the Isabella Fortuna volunteers, the Wick young fiddlers group and Addie Harper and friends, Jenny Szyfelbail for compèring the event, and the Wick heritage team for catering to the public, Murray Lamont and the Mackay’s Hotel.

“We also wish to pass on our thanks to all the participants of the event not forgetting our colleagues from Longhope Lifeboat and all the local vessels for putting on such a colourful display in the harbour by dressing their craft.

“And, last but not least, the Wick Harbour Authority without whom the event could not have been hosted.

“Their support to the event also included discounted berthing for visitors over the weekend,” the spokesperson added.
