Thurso and Dounreay firefighter Eric Gunn has been honoured by his colleagues after retiring on the day he turned 60.

Eric joined Thurso Fire Station in June 1984. He was promoted to crew manager around 1992 and then became watch manager in 2017. His last shout was on Thursday of last week at Armadale.

Eric joined the Dounreay station in 1990, being promoted to crew manager there around 1997 and watch manager in 2014. His last shift at Dounreay was on Monday/Tuesday.

Firefighters, including a couple from Wick and Dunbeath, gathered as SFRS chief officer Martin Blunden presented him with a certificate. Eric received a firefighter axe from Dounreay, while former watch manager Kevin Tait presented him with whisky glasses featuring all three badges he served under – SFRS, Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service and Highland and Islands Fire Brigade.
