Retired Dounreay director was 'a true gentleman'

A former Dounreay director, who has died at the age of 88, has been described as "a true gentleman who was always happy to help and support his colleagues."

The tribute was paid to the late Roy Nelson, who worked at the site from 1996 to 1999, after he passed away at his home in Ross-shire.

A Dounreay Site Restoration Limited spokeswoman said: "Roy Nelson became Dounreay’s director at a time when the government had announced an end of fast reactor technology research and he led the preparations for the site to move into a period of planning to decommission."

She added: "Those who had the pleasure of working with Roy remember him as a true gentleman who was always happy to help and support his colleagues, and our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time."

Dr Nelson was a husband to Katie, a father and grandfather. His funeral service took place in Inverness in September.
