WORK has begun at Wick harbour to repair the damage which was caused to the outer quay during storms during December and January.

Wick Harbour Authority confirmed repairs started on Tuesday morning with Lybster-based John Gunn & Sons carrying out the first phase of the job.

The hole, which measured at least four metres high and eight metres deep, was caused by a period of extreme weather which stretched for 10 days and saw the port besieged by giant waves.

Contractors were back on site on Friday morning as repair works to the quayside continue.
