Rail group at ‘the end of the line’ for Wick conference

A pressure group promoting the far north railway line has invited all interested parties who may wish to attend its AGM and conference in Wick on July 4.

Friends of the Far North Line (FoFNL) said it chooses a different part of the line for the annual event.

FoFNL convenor Ian Budd said: “Last year was in Inverness, so here we are, coming to the other end of the line.

“The conference is open to the public at no charge and will begin at 1.40pm. This is a chance to hear talks from three top rail figures: Hannah Ross, CEO of Scottish Rail Holdings; Alan Ross, director engineering and asset management, Network Rail, who will give a ‘Show and Tell’ talk marking 40 years of radio signalling on the Far North Line; and Lee Ross, Network Rail Perth, infrastructure maintenance delivery manager.”

Ian says that the conference title is ‘Invest to Improve’ and is “aimed squarely at the Scottish Government”.

“This conference must be unique in a quirky way, as all the speakers have the same surname.

“We're very much hoping lots of people in Caithness will be interested, and come to the Norseman Hotel to listen, and ask questions.”
