SERVICEMEN from RAF Lossiemouth paid tribute to the crew of Wick Lifeboat who were involved in a rescue mission when two fighter jets collided off the Caithness coast.

Six members of the 15 Squadron Tornado Flight arrived at the docks of Wick Harbour to present a cheque of £1100 to crew members who were involved in the operation in July.

Along with lifeboats from Buckie and Invergordon, crew members of Roy Barker II were the first on the scene during the incident that claimed the lives of three airmen with one seriously injured.

The Squadron decided they would like to give something back to all three lifeboat stations involved and they decided on a charity auction to be held in their Lossie base.

As a result £3300 was raised and split evenly between the three stations.

The star of the auction was a bottle of Old Pulteney whisky, with a specially engraved bottle for the occaision donated by the Wick distillery. This item alone raised in the region of £500.
