BBC Radio 1’s head of comedy will travel to Thurso next weekend for a live DJ set.

Dave Vitty – aka Comedy Dave – who is head writer and sidekick to top radio host Chris Moyles, will be in Skinandi’s next Saturday.

The radio star will be manning the decks from midnight and club manager Andy Crawford reckons it should be a good night.

"Comedy Dave has a reputation for doing something different at club nights around the country," said Andrew.

"He picks up a lot of stuff from other DJs at Radio 1 and always makes it quite fun and cheeky. He’ll be on for around two hours and I’m sure he’ll bring his own unique sense of nightclub humour."

Vitty can normally be heard on the early morning Chris Moyles Show

during the week.

As one of the main presenters taking part in the mix of music and chat, Vitty has become a rising star on the DJ circuit in recent years.

He also appeared in last year’s Dancing On Ice

and made it to week four, with a memorable routine to the Billy Ray Cyrus song, "Achy Breaky Heart".

On the radio show last week Vitty talked about his gig in Caithness when he said he is "really looking forward to travelling up to Thurso to DJ".

Vitty is no stranger to the county. In 2005 he and Moyles set off from John O’Groats in vintage cars aiming to drive to Land’s End to raise money for Comic Relief.

More recently in aid of the charity, Vitty and Moyles presented Radio 1’s longest-ever show – a record previously held by veteran DJ Simon Mayo. The show began at 6.30am on Wednesday, March 16, and at 7.31pm on Thursday the 17th Moyles and Vitty reached the 37-hour mark which gained them the record for the longest show in BBC Radio 1’s history.

They continued to broadcast and at 8.30am on the Friday the pair broke the Guinness World Records’ record for the longest marathon radio DJ (team) show. By the end of the show at 10.30am, they had set a new record of 52 hours and raised £2.4 million for Comic Relief 2011 via online and text donations.

Subsequently, the total raised has increased to £2,821,831 and with an audience of 2.84 million, it was the most popular live BBC red button radio feature ever.

Doors open for the Thurso gig at 10.30pm and tickets – costing £12 – are available from McAllans in Wick and Thurso. Over 18s only.
