HIGHLAND Council’s trading standards department is at the leading edge of challenging companies on internet delivery charges.

Graham Phillips, chairman of the council’s TEC services committee said: “The benefit to consumers from the work our trading standards team has done has been very significant and in some case has seen the removal of surcharges on delivery charges.”

The project included extensive discussions with a wide range of businesses from large multi-nationals to small micro-businesses.

In addition to bringing these businesses into compliance with the law, the investigations also provided an insight into issues, including the behaviour of some carriers, which has helped to inform the discussions now going on at a national level.
