DUNBEATH youngsters will start a new legacy in the county next week when they plant the first trees of a new wood.
Schoolchildren from the village primary school will put in the first of 57,000 native trees at the 80 acre Welbeck Diamond Wood near Braemore in Caithness on Wednesday.
Part of the Woodland Trust’s Jubilee Woods project. Eleanor Garty, from the Woodland Trust Scotland, and Anson MacAuslan, from Langwell and Braemore Estate, will also plant a special rowan tree to mark the creation of the 60-acre wood.
The Welbeck Diamond Wood will link existing areas of mature ancient woodland near to Braemore Lodge on the Langwell and Braemore Estate. Up to 57,000 native trees including Scots pine will be planted.
