NOSTALGIA will hang heavy in the air when former pupils of Pulteneytown Academy say farewell to the school before it closes in the autumn.

To mark its impending closure, an exhibition has been put together revealing memories and history of the Wick primary.

Pulteneytown and South school are to be replaced by Newton Park, a new primary being built as part of the £48.5 million complex on the grounds of Wick High.

Once it is completed, the academy will be knocked down so its parents’ teachers’ association is keen for people to get the chance to say a final goodbye. The event will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 10am to 4pm.

Head teacher Lilian Wark said photos from across the years as well as old uniforms, log books, and the school’s old black and white tie will be on show. A book will be there for people to sign and leave comments.

Ms Wark said: “We have a fine display of photographs and various other things which we’ve set up in the hall.

She said: “It will be sad because it’s a farewell to the school.

“The change to the new school will be done in two steps. Pulteneytown Academy stops on July 1 but the building is still going to be used and we will return to it with South School as Newton Park Primary in August.

“Then, in October we will move to the new school and the old building will be demolished.”
