Highland Council has issued the warning about the scam.

A WARNING has been made about fraudulent e-mails which seem to be from Apple iTunes.

The warning was made by Highland Council’s trading standards. It has urged the public to be on its guard about ‘phishing’ emails which appear to come from the company.

The unsolicited email from fraudsters informs the recipient that if they did not make a specific purchase they should click on a link to get a refund. The person is then redirected to a fraudulent web page and asked to complete information such as debit payment card details get a refund in their account.

Highland Council said potential victims of the scam email should contact their bank immediately and not use online banking services until confirmation that their device has not been compromised by malware can be confirmed.

Consumers can also contact Police Scotland on 101 if they feel they may be a victim of this fraud.
