Proposal to reinstate axed bus service by Lybster organisation

A Lybster-based organisation proposes to reinstate a local bus service axed by Stagecoach Highland last year.

Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Development Company (LLCCDC) has secured funding from the Lybster and Tannach fund to reinstate the Saturday service 75 (Dunbeath - Wick) on a trial basis.

Stagecoach cut the service after a significant drop in passenger numbers last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The funding will allow two runs from Dunbeath to Wick and back on Saturdays from July 3 until August 28. It is hoped that good uptake of the service will allow it to continue beyond then.

The Saturday service will initially run over the summer school holidays and go via East Caithness Community Campus to offer access to leisure and library facilities in Wick. The existing X99 service will continue to operate.

A competitive tender was run and three locally-based companies were given the opportunity to bid. LLCCDC is seeking comments and timetable suggestions
