Caithness Family History Society’s last meeting before the summer break will look at how to make the most of the world’s largest free genealogy resource.

The online event is a presentation by Alison Spring entitled Getting More Out of FamilySearch.org.

Alison is a professional family historian with more than 40 years’ experience of tracing her own and many other people’s ancestry. Her specialism is in the records of Scotland.

Alison describes her talk as a tour around some of the tools, resources and records on FamilySearch.org that family history enthusiasts may not have heard of.

The main service of the FamilySearch website is to offer access to digital images and indexes of genealogical records. These images can be searched along with a number of databases.

Visitors can search billions of historical records for their ancestors. It is also home to the largest community family tree in the world.

Alison’s blog states: “Opening a free FamilySearch account is a bit like opening up a box of different tools that will help you to be more productive in tracing, recording, sharing and researching your family tree. Even seasoned users of the website are constantly being surprised by the range of things they can use it for.”

The free event starts at 7pm on Tuesday, June 10, and registration is essential through www.jotform.com/chaircaithnessfhs/June-talk

Caithness Family History Society has a website and a Facebook page.
